FAQs
What happens on the Introductory Mornings? The 90-minute session is a relaxed opportunity for your child to get to know the Oasis team, become familiar with the space and experience what makes our community special. Your child will participate in some of the fun and engaging activities that we offer at Oasis Learning. This will give them the chance to see if it feels like we are the right fit. The session is free of charge. You are welcome to stay for the session to supports your child if they are feeling nervous. We understand this is a common thing for children meeting new faces! Places are limited, so if you'd like to come along, click the 'Enquire' button above to join.
Do we have to enrol at the start of term or can we join any time? You can join at any time, space permitting. We have an onboarding process and will contact you about availability once you’re on the waitlist.
Is this a full-time or part-time program? Depending on availability, your child can attend full-time or part-time.
What age groups do you support? We support children aged 6-14.
Is your space inclusive? Yes. We accept all children and will try to meet the needs of each child to the best of our ability.
Is Oasis Learning a school? No. We are a social enterprise and well-being space supporting children who, for a range of reasons, may find traditional schooling difficult. Our space is built on trust, choice, and a belief that meaningful growth happens in many forms.
So does that mean they’re not going to learn? Not at all. At Oasis Learning, we believe that learning is a natural part of life. It happens all the time, especially when children feel safe, respected, and connected. Our approach is built on the understanding that children need a nurturing environment and trusting relationships in order to take meaningful steps in their growth. We create a space where curiosity is encouraged and expression is valued. We don’t follow a school model or curriculum. Our focus on creative exploration through the arts, alongside child-led projects, offers rich opportunities for intellectual, emotional, and creative development. We foster a low-demand environment so all activities are optional. In short: a happy, safe child will naturally grow and we’re here to support that journey.
What does a typical day look like? We begin each day by welcoming you and your child at the door. You’re invited to grab a coffee to-go or stay for the first 30 minutes during Exploration Time, where children can freely choose from a range of open-ended activities. Afterwards we meet for a group gathering that helps us start the day with connection and intention. The children suggest activities they would like to do, any big announcments, or organise activities and projects planned from previous weeks. These activities are thoughtfully designed to foster skill development and social connection, but there is no pressure to participate. Children always have the right to choose how they spend their time. If they prefer, they can follow their own interests and work on a self-directed project with our support, or simply read a book, relax, or take quiet time in our safe, nurturing environment.
What does payment look like? For non-NDIS children: If you book in for a single day, it will be $207. We also apply sibling discount rates for 15% (2nd child) and 25% (subsequent children). If your child is an NDIS participant, the payment is plan-specific. We will arrange a meeting or phone call to discuss further. If possible, please provide us with your plan and plan-manager's (if plan managed) details.
Can my child be a self-managed NDIS participant? Yes, we accept both self-managed and plan-managed participants into our program. If your child is managed through the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) - we have finished the first stage of NDIS registration and will be able to accept funding for NDIA in the future once we are fully approved.
Where are you located? We are located at Reservoir Neighbourhood House, a short walk from the Leisure Centre and Broadway.
What are your hours of operation? The day runs from 9:00am - 3:15pm Introductory Sessions being at 9:15am - 10:45am
What should my child bring each day? At Oasis Learning, we want your child to feel ownership over the space. We encourage your child to bring anything of interest to them. Bring a lunch box and water bottle each day.
What happens if my child is upset during the day? Safety for us is paramount and we put up no boundaries to communication between them and you. If your child becomes upset, we’ll respond with care and support, helping them feel safe and heard. If they continue to feel unsettled, we’ll give you a call to talk through the best next steps together. You’re always welcome to speak directly with your child and similarly if they request to talk to you we will facilitate that without question.
Can my child bring a phone or device to Oasis Learning? At Oasis Learning we trust your child to make responsible choices about personal devices. We recognise the potential benefits of devices for learning and communication. We also encourage families to discuss with their child how best to balance device use with focus and wellbeing. We are here to foster a healthy conversation around phone and device use.
What happens if my child doesn’t want to attend when we arrive? If your child arrives and does not want to attend at all - we will not charge you for the day. We will have 30 minutes of Exploration Time at the beginning of the day, where children can freely choose from a range of open-ended activities. At 9.30, have a quick chat with your child to see if they would like to stay. If they stay, we will consider them to be enrolled for the day. If they choose not to stay, the door will always be open if you would like to try again another day.
Can my child take breaks or opt-out of activities? Yes. Your child can take breaks at any time, can eat at any time, and engage in what they would like at any time. Oasis Learning is an encouraging space to help develop your child’s agency.
